U.S. COULD MAURITANIA FOR W. AFRICA BASE

CAIRO [MENL] -- The United States plans to use an Arab League member as abase for military operations in Africa. U.S. officials said Mauritania has agreed to allow a military presencein the West African desert state. They said Mauritania would helpsurrounding nations fight Islamic insurgency groups aligned with Al Qaida.
