UAE Warns Of Susceptibility To Unrest
ABU DHABI [MENL] -- The United Arab Emirates, one of the richest countries
in the Arab world, has warned that it, too, could be susceptible to the
unrest that toppled the regime in Tunisia.
A senior security official asserted that the UAE was being threatened by
rising unemployment, a key element in the revolt in Tunisia in January 2011.
Dubai police commander Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim said the emirate,
regarded as the economic hub of the Gulf, has reached an unemployment of
14.4 percent, or about 43,000 citizens.
