TURKEY APPOINTS PRO-ISLAMIC PRIME MINISTER
ANKARA [MENL] -- Turkey has appointed pro-Islamic politician as itscaretaker prime minister as the nation's ruling party announced plans torevise a $31 billion International Monetary Fund plan for Ankara. Abdullah Gul, deputy chief of the Islamic-oriented Justice andDevelopment Party, was named prime minister in what is expected to be atemporary appointment. The head of the party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, isfighting a ban on entering political office because of a conviction forinciting religious hatred.
