UK HELPS KUWAIT IN SEA TRAINING

ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Britain intends to help Kuwait with naval training.

Officials said the Royal British Navy has sent a frigate to Kuwait to help train the sheikdom. They said the HMS Montrose, a Type 23 frigate, would arrive in Kuwait on Feb. 25 and remain for three days.

A British embassy statement said the Montrose planned to dock at the Kuwaiti Naval Base. The ship has invited 120 students from the Kuwait Staff College for briefings on the operations of a modern ship.

"This is an important couple of days for the ship and the ship's company are very much looking forward to hosting the students," Cmdr. Tony Watt, commander of the Montrose, said. "We are also keen to demonstrate the many roles and functions of a modern Royal Navy frigate and how we operate as part of a multi-national coalition in the Gulf."
