ISRAEL GROUNDS A-4 FLEET

TEL AVIV [MENL] -- The Israel Air Force has grounded its U.S.-origin A-4 Skyhawk fleet.

The move was ordered on Thursday in wake of a crash of the A-4 during a training mission over the coastal city of Ashdod. The pilot ejected over the Mediterranean Sea and was not seriously injured.

The air force said the A-4's engine malfunctioned during a routine flight. Officials said a blaze erupted from the engine and the fighter-jet lost power.

"During routine training activity this morning, an engine malfunction apparently occurred in an A-4 Skyhawk airplane," the military said.
