QATAR SIGNS $322m DEAL WITH EADS

ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Qatar has signed a $322 million military contract with EADS.

Qatar said the 240 million euro contract stipulated that EADS would establish a command, control, communications, computers and intelligence network to protect strategic sites as well as monitor infiltration attempts. The Qatari military said the C4I system would bolster security along the emirate's borders.

"The project provides for comprehensive system of surveillance and protection networks, consisting of several state-of-the-art electronic surveillance stations distributed along the coastline and territorial waters," the official Qatar News Agency said.

The emirate said the contract was signed on May 30 during a visit to Paris by Qatari Emir Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani. Over the weekend, Qatar announced an order of 60 Airbus 350 aircraft from Airbus, a subsidiary of EADS.
