WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The Bush administration has ordered the freezing of
assets of four Iranian companies deemed facilitators of Teheran's nuclear
and ballistic missile programs. The Treasury Department identified the Iranian companies as Pars Tarash,
Farayand Technique, Fajr Industries Group and Mizan Machine Manufacturing
Group, deemed proliferators of weapons of mass destruction. The move,
announced on June 8, banned all transactions with Americans as well as froze
company assets under U.S. jurisdiction."So long as Iran continues to pursue a nuclear program in defiance of
the international community's calls to halt enrichment, we will continue to
hold those responsible to account for their conduct," Treasury
Undersecretary Stuart Levey said.Officials said Pars and Farayand have been owned or controlled by the
Iranian Atomic Energy Organization. They said the two companies could also
be acting as fronts for Kalaye Electric Co., an IAEO subsidiary designated
as a WMD proliferator in February 2007.
