IRAN DEVELOPS WARPLANE EQUIPMENT

NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iran has developed key equipment for combat jets.

Officials said the Defense Ministry has produced the landing gear for fighter-jets. They said the ministry would export the system, designed for a range of combat aircraft.

The landing gear system was entitled "Chariot." Officials said each system would cost much less than comparable equipment produced abroad.

"Iran succeeded in breaking the industry monopoly of the United States, Britain and Russia, resulting in the savings of $250,000 for each Chariot," Defense Ministry spokesman Alireza Yeganeh said.
