Erdogan Leaves Pro-Russian Generals
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- President Recep Erdogan has fired pro-U.S. generals
while allowing advocates of Russia to remain in the Turkish military.
A leading Turkish analyst has told the U.S. Congress that Erdogan
aides prepared lists of thousands of officers and soldiers prior to the
military coup in July 2016. Ahmet Sait Yayla, a former Turkish police
chief, said Erdogan's purge was modeled after the dictatorship of
Russian President Vladimir Putin.
